The aim of the project is to generate funds that we have lost through a lack of competition over the last 12 months due to Covid-19.

We're still collecting donations

On the 15th June 2021 we'd raised £1,890 with 38 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

 New stretch target

The money that is raised will directly enable us to:

Retain the professional coaches that deliver our programme.

Purchase pool space at Moss Side Leisure Centre for our Raven Moss community club.

During any further lockdown or periods where leisure centres are closed, provide online training and education for our swimmers.

Provide opportunities for swimmers of all ages including those from more deprived areas of our community and those with physical or mental disabilities.

Enhance young swimmers life skills such as leadership, confidence, communication and water safety.

The effects of Covid-19 have had a big impact on the club. Throughout our history, we have produced young swimmers who have gone on to compete at the highest level in the sport. Over the last year, we have had to come together and work in extremely difficult circumstances and change our way of thinking to provide solutions in order to continue to produce the next generation of swimmers. Throughout the UK lockdown periods, we have strived to continue delivering a structured routine to our young swimmers including online land training, quizzes, swimmer education workshops and Q&A’s with senior athletes. Everything they were missing out on by not being in school, we have aimed to cater for.

WHO ARE WE?

City of Manchester Aquatic Swim Team (COMAST) is a successful community swimming programme that has been operating for over 20 years and providing opportunity for performance, competitive, recreational and disability swimming for all abilities and ages.

WHY ARE WE CROWDFUNDING?

COMAST heavily relies on our Open meet competitions that are hosted at the Manchester Aquatic Centre. Since COVID-19 in March 2020 we have been unable to host any of our competitions which has left a large hole in our finances.

ABOUT US

We are a club for all ages and ability that has achieved success at the highest level. We have a total of 11 squads within our programme. x2 community clubs, A Para-Swimming academy, Masters programme, x4 Development squads, x3 Performance Squads. We are an inclusive club that believes in helping youth maximise their potential whilst learning some key life lessons along the way.

Our community clubs are based in Moss side and have run successfully to over 50 members for the last few years. These clubs are the stepping stone from learn to swim lessons into either competition or recreational swimming. They are vital community programmes that provide opportunity for youngsters in the area.

The Matt Walker Academy was set up in 2016 to help provide opportunity for swimmers with disability’s. It is run by world record holder and Paralympic Gold Medalist Matt Walker MBE along with his assistant Ellie Bamber and an army of fantastic volunteers. The squad has grown exponentially over the last few years and at present is one of the most successful in Britain with swimmers competing at British Para Nationals and selected on English Talent programmes for the last 3 years. We also have 3 Senior British swimmers with Paralympic and world gold medals who are looking forward to competing in Tokyo this summer.

Our Masters programme has a fantastic mix of ability and personality. While some train to compete and test themselves others turn up for a more recreational and social experience. Last year, Phil Hoyland Swam the English Channel in 13 hours as part of his round the world series of distance events.

Our Academy and development programmes are the first step into competitive swimming and educate young swimmers about the sport as well as providing them with the foundational skills they will use throughout their journey. This stage of our programme is also a great opportunity to develop other life skills such as independence, communication and leadership.

Our performance programme offers swimmers with the opportunity to take their competitive swimming to the next level with vital support services and additional resources that are required to achieve at this stage. We have multiple Olympic, World Championship, Commonwealth Games, European and World Junior swimmers and medalists as part of our proud history.

To ensure our proud club can survive and continue providing opportunity for our members, we really need and appreciate anything the wider community can provide.
