As an Old Blue I am delighted to support this project! Thank you for the Coleridge Memorial Trust for its wonderful work.
My gt-gt-grandfather (Charles Gover) was born in Mill St in 1805 (married 20 May 1823). Although only a working man at the silk mill, he may well have known of Samuel.
Supported with pleasure by David and Mary Rose Pulvertaft
We are pleased to recognise the contribution of Samuel Taylor Coleridge to our literary heritage and also feel that, at this time, it is important to highlight his tireless campaigning against the slave trade.
For a very worthy cause & our lovely friend who happens to be an ancestor!
Come on guys we can do it for STC and Ottery St Mary!
I love the idea of a memorial statue, I think it’s important that tourists calling to the town will be able to visit it.
We are lucky that Coleridge lived and wrote and gave us the benefit of all his insight. A towering genius. We will not see his like again.
We are right behind it - great for the town.
All Nature seems at work. Slugs leave their lair The bees are stirring - birds are on the wing- And Winter, slumbering in the open air, Wears on his smiling face a dream of Spring! S.T. Coleridge The statue is in commemoration of one of the important sons of Ottery St Mary
"And what if when you awoke you had the flower in your hand Ah, what then?"
Good to see this long-overdue memorial statue is finally coming to beautiful Ottery St Mary.
On behalf of the Royal Society of Saint George, Madrid.
A great poet, worthy of the highest praise
The strangest, most lonely, most spaced of poets, adorable Coleridge
Slowly and smoothly went the ship, Moved onward from beneath.
This is partly a birthday present contribution to local historian Christopher Wakefield - the author of the History of Coleridge. Good luck with the project from Surrey Branch !?? J and AW
What a fitting memorial. How wonderful!
