Changing One Life at a Time
We support over 100 passionate and dedicated volunteers, and partner with other charities to deliver life-changing and high-impact projects to those in need across our town.
Here's a snapshot of what we've been up to:
Supporting Addiction Recovery: Already this year, with 30 volunteers we've supported 52 people through The STAR Life Course, a transformative in-person programme designed to help individuals dealing with addictive habits or behaviours.
Housing the Homeless: Partnering with Hope into Action, we currently give 3 ex-rough sleepers a safe and secure home, friendship, and the support they need to rebuild their lives.
Money Coaching: We regularly use The CAP Money Course, a revolutionary money management course that teaches people budgeting skills to help them control their finances, so they can save, spend wisely, and prevent debt. 7 people have completed our Money Course this year (2024) and we've got more planned!
Transforming Communities: Through Joy Café, we build community and bring joy in an area of high deprivation. That's everything from genuine smiles and meaningful conversations, to our 'Pay it Forward' and 'Pay What You Like' schemes, to wellbeing promoting workshops, and family fun days. We’re currently raising funds for a Community Development Worker that’ll be based at Joy Café.
Sporting Activities: We run…
- A football community, Bridge the Gap, that gives young adults opportunities to build relationships, enhance their physical and mental health, and develop as leaders. Roughly 45 attend Bridge the Gap each week and they've connected with over 200 people over the last 2 years.
- A weekly Men’s Basketball club that has connected with over 60 players since March 2023.
- A fortnightly Table Tennis Club.
Social Space for over 55’s: We run a Pop-Up Café in Charminster with free coffee and cake, board games and puzzles for the older generation.
Supporting International Students: We fund and support ‘International Café’, a weekly social event for students from all over the world to connect, have fun, learn about other cultures, and receive practical and emotional support.
