The Comedy Games with Coach Mon

Help us bring our show to Edinburgh Fringe in 2024!

After a gold medal run at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Coach Mon is pumped for a spectacular sports extravaganza BUT her athletes have disappeared! How can The Comedy Games leap ahead with no athletes?! Can you help find them?

Skate on over to this Olympic inspired kids clown show filled with music & sports-tastic events like eyebrow push-ups and a slow motion running race. Coach Mon will have your little ones moving, grooving and dreaming AND you’ll walk away with your very own custom made medal to celebrate our success! Join this frivolously fun show! A playful kids clown show for the whole family to enjoy! Ideal for kids aged 4+

Written & performed by Monique Warren, directed by Laura Aldous and produced by Enya Cai, The Comedy Games with Coach Mon is an interactive event not to be missed!

Who is Coach Mon?

Kids Entertainer & Clown

Coach Mon is a coach who LOVES training athletes (aka her audience). She doesn't actually know much about sport, but that doesn't stop her. She's a singing, dancing, joke telling clown who loves to play!

About the Team

As well as being a creative trio, Monique, Laura and Enya have been great friends for years! On and off for the past 11 years they have been collaborating in performing arts education and theatre making spaces, primarily the Australian School of Performing Arts and the Australian Girls’ Choir.

  • Monique Warren is an actor, singer and clown who trained at The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, The Clowning Workshop - Melbourne and Ecole Philippe Gaulier. Most recently she has performed with The Anchor Theatre Company in their award winning, international touring show ‘Pillow Fight’. Monique is a queer artist who aims to portray female characters with unapologetic tenacity. With eleven years of experience as a performing arts teacher, creator and children’s entertainer, Monique is passionate about sharing the joy of performing arts with young people. After a smashing season of The Comedy Games at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2023, Monique is thrilled to bring Coach Mon to Edinburgh.
  • Laura Aldous is an Australian theatre-maker and actor who is a proud member of the Greenroom Award winning theatre companies The Bloomshed and Barking Spider Creative. Over the last 5 years she has been creating site specific work with and for children in schools and art spaces such as galleries. She is excited to be making her directorial debut on The Comedy Games with Coach Mon. Together, Monique and Laura have extensive experience in making theatre with and for young people and facilitating performing arts workshops with students across Australia.
  • Enya Cai is a Producer and Consultant who works across the Arts and Corporate sectors in Melbourne, Australia. In the creative world, she is a project manager for social arts projects, producer for theatre, and leads choirs for young people. Across Corporate clients she provides specialised advice on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and facilitates leadership training. Enya was the Producer for Be You Productions' Lucky Stiff at the MC Showroom and remount for Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2024, and production manager for Dry Land at Theatre Works (2024). Enya is pumped to be part of the team bringing Coach Mon to one of her favourite cities in the world, Edinburgh!

Why Edinburgh Fringe?

As an artist, Monique’s mission is to creatively connect with audiences to build community cohesion. Our team is inspired to be part of Edinburgh Fringe Festival as it is an established event where artists and community come together to create, be entertained and network.

Artists have a responsibility to children and young people to facilitate spaces for imagination, play and encourage confidence building. For our world to be a kinder, innovative place, opportunities to explore and dream are crucial for community cohesion.

Monique has recently travelled from Australia to Europe to study Clowning at Ecole Philippe Gaulier. Edinburgh Fringe Festival is a wonderful playground for her to implement and consolidate her clown/comedy skills with international audiences.

Your generous support

Edinburgh Fringe is a big dream of ours and every pound, euro and dollar will make a huge difference! Your donations will be used to help cover the many costs of taking our show to Edinburgh Fringe. These include...

  • Venue hire at an Edinburgh Fringe venue that will allow kids onstage (expensive, but essential for our show!)
  • Technical operators who can design the lighting and audio and bring the show to life
  • Marketing and promotional costs to help reach more athletes (audiences) in Edinburgh and beyond
  • Craft packs for athletes to create their own medals to take home at the end of the show
  • Monique's travel, accommodation and living expenses
  • Edinburgh Fringe registration fee
  • Boring but important things like Public Liability Insurance, music licences, and Protecting Vulnerable Groups Checks in Scotland for Coach Mon and two helpers.

Any amount you can spare would be most appreciated!

What next?

After Edinburgh Fringe, we are hoping to tour The Comedy Games with Coach Mon across Europe and Australia. Edinburgh Fringe is our springboard where we hope to capture audiences and reviews, and keep refining the show for future seasons!
