Wells and Horrington Cricket Club is a community amateur club which primarily focuses on providing accessible, safe and fun cricketing opportunities for all in Mendip, Somerset.
Our primary ground is nestled in the South Horrington conservation area, and was formerly the cricket pitch for the Mendip Hospital residents and staff. Since 1995, Wells Cricket Club who merged with nearby Horrington Cricket Club in 2023, have proudly called the ground home.
The garden outside the Clubhouse is lovingly maintained by a handful of volunteers led by Rob Blake who can frequently be seen wielding a trowel and watering cans (named Ding and Dong) throughout the year. This garden is definitely larger than it first appears, and takes countless volunteer hours to make it look as beautiful as it does.
The flowers and planting welcome a host of insects and is a hub of pollination. The grounds in South Horrington are enjoyed throughout the year with many taking in the sunshine, garden and tranquility to take some time to read a book, quiet self-reflection or to meet up with friends.
Recently the volunteers have been working on the south border and uncovering the lovely mendip stone to create a colourful rockery area. The turrets and planters have been re-planted with a much-needed splash of spring colours.
Costs of everything continue to increase both on and off the field, and the cricket club needs to prioritise funds for the continuation of our cricketing activities.
Sadly this means that the club is not able to fund the increasing cost of materials for the volunteers to work their magic and enable them to create and maintain this beautiful garden space. To date just under £300 has been spent this Spring on materials, tools and planting. We are seeking donations from the community for them to continue their work and fund the costs already experiences this Spring. The Club and Volunteers thank you for your ongoing support and look forward to welcoming you to the ground. And as always, if you'd like to get involved please email [email protected] for more information/contacts. THANK YOU!
