Help us repair our climbing frame!
Our climbing frame
Our climbing frame allows children to be outside and stay active, learn new skills, develop gross motor skills and core muscles, builds confidence, perseverance and resilience, and sparks imagination.
It was purchased 14 years ago using money raised by the existing committee. Over the years, many children have played on it. The climbing frame, bridge and slide has supported children in learning and developing new skills, developing gross motor skills, and promoting physical movement, healthy growth and strong muscles.
Benefits and why our children love it
The climbing frame helps to develop these skills because children require agility, balance and coordination to play on it. For example:
- The climbing frame helps children build up their confidence, perseverance and resilience to keep on trying and challenge themselves.
- The children will be creative and think critically when solving problems of how best to get across the bridge, for example.
- Children will learn new and extended language as staff support them on the equipment, introducing the children to words such a ‘climb’, ‘stretch’, ‘wobble’, and ‘balance’.
- The children will learn social skills such as turn taking and supporting their friends to try something new, resulting in having a wonderful sense of pride and achievement.
- This type of play sparks imagination as the climbing frame becomes a pirate ship, house, or rocket, and allows them to make up stories and play.
- The children will develop hand, eye coordination as they walk across the wobbly bridge, holding on and focusing on getting to the other side.
- The children will count how many steps it will take to climb up or walk across, and they will even collaborate and work together to build a den under the frame!
We need your help!
For a while now the climbing frame has become very tired. The bridge is weathered and breaking, one of the steps up to the frame is broken, and it needs some overall TLC and refurbishment.
This is where we need your help! It will cost £1,600 to do the repairs to the climbing frame. West End Pre-School is a registered charity and we rely on the kindness of the local community to continue to run and provide a welcoming, safe and fun learning environment where children are encouraged to learn and explore through play.
Anything you can give towards the repair of our climbing frame will ensure we can continue to offer this valuable and beneficial type of play, and will allow the children to carry on playing together on something they love.
Thank you so much for your support.
