The waves crashed in as the children sat on the rocks in their red jumpers counting them together, “five, six seven!”. They laughed and cheered as the water got closer and closer to their teacher. Ice cream was being eaten as the waves continued to move in, “…six, seven!” This time the biggest wave sprayed the teacher and the children were pointing as Mrs Sage turned to them laughing at the fact that her two hour trip home from the beach would be with wet shoes. But why was she laughing and so happy? It was because those children had had the best day out, as a class, enjoying each other’s company in the fresh air and learning in a different environment.
Our school isn’t next to the beach but we want to take our children there. Some of them may have never been to the beach and for some of them it could be their happy place. We are a rural school in a small, but caring, local community. To take our children on visits regularly, and to give our children even more opportunities from zoo visits to sports fixtures, we need our own minibus to help with transporting the children and that is why we are raising money at the moment.
But what’s in it for you? Our aim is to open up the opportunity for these trips to others. So if you’re in our local area, you can use our minibus too. If you’re from further afield you might also be able to use our minibus but our community comes first. We pride ourselves on our community spirit which is developed from our aims of fostering children’s enthusiasm for life and embracing life-long citizenship.
We appreciate that sometimes it isn’t money that you can donate but it could be time. If that’s the case we’d equally love to hear from you, come and see us and see how you can donate your time to the children of our community here in Clehonger.
