Clay Community Church own The Grove on Saracen St and Bardowie St Hall. We are trying to decarbonise both buildings to do our small bit for the climate emergency, as well as making them more sustainable, usable and warmer.
Bardowie St Hall hosts Clay Community Church and Victory Outreach Glasgow and Clay Cafe as well as a range of other groups including a kids music club and recovery opportunities. The hall is very inefficient to heat and over winter we use a lot of gas and money to get the hall warm enough to use. We would love to install a heat pump and upgrade the heating system to provide greener and more efficient heating all year round. We will also install solar panels on the roof of the hall to generate our own green electricity.
The Grove is being developed as an enterprise hub where we hope to offer space for new businesses and apprenticeship opportunities in established businesses. Unfortunately there are big gaps along the front of the building so at the moment most of our heat goes to heating Saracen St! We would love to insulate the front of the building to improve the heating efficiency of the building and then install a heat pump to provide environmentally friendly heating.
We have signed up to renewable electricity tariffs so once we have completed this project the church buildings will be totally free of gas.
