Hello Neighbours,
It's that time of year again when we come together to light up our corner of the world this Christmas! Now in its fifth year, the Christmas Lights Project at St. John's Crescent in Canton has become an important tradition for our community.
The switch-on event has grown in popularity, attracting both residents and visitors. We aim to create a festive atmosphere with offerings from local food vendors and carols from the brass band. The lights will be up throughout the festive season, bringing cheer to all.
This year, we need to purchase extra lights to replace some that have unfortunately broken due to the Welsh winter weather. We’re hoping to raise enough funds to cover our costs, and this is where we need your support.
Our costs include:
- Professional Installation: To ensure the lights are safely set up and taken down
- New Lights: To replace those that are broken
- The Tree: A centerpiece for our festivities
- Food & Drink: Free offerings for everyone during the switch-on event
We also welcome food donations from neighbours. Whether it’s baked goods, snacks, or other festive treats, your contributions will help enhance the event.
This year, we’d like to dedicate our lights to our friend and talented artist, Carl Bevan, who depicted so beautifully the illuminated church crescent in his iconic painting that I'm sure many of you have seen. Carl sadly passed away in August. He was only 51. He is much missed in our community, and we remember his creativity and spirit during this festive season.
If you’d like to help with the organisation of the event or have any ideas, please contact me here. Your support, whether in ideas or hands-on help, would be greatly appreciated.
Mark Your Calendars: The switch-on will take place on Wednesday, December 4th, at 5 PM.
Thank you for your support!
Best,
Mary
