“Within every crisis is a hidden opportunity” .  

Well I certainly believe that we are in an environmental crisis that requires calm heads, courage and leadership from our Government.  

With my colleagues in the Climate Party I also believe that this presents the commercial and industrial opportunity of the century and Britain with its record of excellence in engineering and technology can lead this.  After all we led the first Industrial Revolution. However it needs the Government to incentivise this and bring forward our Carbon Net Zero target to 2030.   92% of the World (including the UK) has committed to reaching net zero by 2050. However our present Government shows little urgency in delivering on this commitment which was never designed to be an end date for developed nations like the UK but a target by which all nations would have been helped over the line. The IPCC has made it clear that unless there is a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030 we will exceed 1.5% of warming and an acceleration in the pace of change with consequential environmental damage.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.  Britain is still respected in the World and where we lead others will follow. If we want money to invest in our NHS, our social services, our police and armed forces, if we want to lift everyone out of poverty and provide energy and food security then Britain needs to lead this new clean industrial opportunity and not be at the back of the queue paying China and the USA for our solar panels and wind turbines. Solar, Wind, Tidal Power combined with existing Nuclear and Battery back up can provide 100% of our electricity needs.  We just need the resolve to pursue this

In 5 years, at the end of the next Parliament, I want to be able to look back and see our economy thriving, and feel proud that “we have done so much more than we thought we ever could”.
