If we have extra funding we would like to include an evening Open Air Cinema activity in Grosvenor Park on the Saturday evening.
Chester Green Weekend is a new event to Chester which will be part of the national Great Big Green Week. It has come from a collaboration of Chester Great and Small Ambassadors who are responsible for various sustainable activities, including AT Fest, Green Expo, Sustainable Cheshire Fair (Eco Communities) and the Oh design Foundation. With the fantastic help of We love Good Times and Reasonably Good.
Think lots of fun activities taking place around Chester City Centre and in Grosvenor Park over one weekend in June (15th and 16th June) with an underlying aim of raising the awareness of what we can all do to tackle the climate and nature emergency.
Activities, workshops, walks, stalls, food and entertainment will be taking all within the walkable City of Chester for anyone to get along to free of charge. We will be distributing 10,000 copies of a special Chester Green Weekend Map where organisations and businesses can promote what they are doing.
What is the funding for?
We are looking to fund and print around 10,000 special Chester Green Weekend Maps via We Love Good Times, specifically to promote the wide range activities. See example of existing We Love Good Times Map. As a Green Advocate Reward your organisation or businesses can promote what they are doing within the map. We are creating a Chester Green Weekend branding and website.
We need your help by donating and getting involved via one of the reward options or donating anything you or your business can to make this weekend a success and allowing us to make it a regular activity in the city. Eco Communities, Green Expo and AT Fest are all Community Interest Companies and so not for profit. We can do this without your help and volunteers.
What will be happening at Chester Green Weekend?
We are fully committed to promoting and bringing more people into Chester. Engaging them on sustainable aspects of the One City Plan, the Climate & Nature Emergency and highlight the fantastic sustainable businesses, projects and organisations in our region. You can organise activities over the week of the 8th to 16th June in Chester or over the weekend of the 15/16th June. You could complete an activity within your business with your staff or customers. You might put on a film showing, or a talk under the topic of climate change or nature. A play, walk, sustainable crafts, clothes swap, the Great Big Green Week Website has lots of ideas. Or you can take some of the space in Grosvenor Park via our Rewards to put on a stall or activity as part of the weekend event 15/16th June.
Grosvenor Park 15th and 16th June
The Sustainable Living Zone will be organised by Eco Communities who put on the Sustainable Fairs in the park. You will find artisan stalls and our first Luggage Rummage.
Then the Innovation Zone by Green Expo will move from Castle Drive to the park this year bringing you ideas of how to make your home more environmentally friendly and other areas of green innovation.
The Nature Zone will be full of family friendly fun activities from the likes of Chester Zoo and Cheshire Wildlife Trust.
But that's not all, organisations and businesses in Chester will be taking part including Active Travel Fest and its Active Travel Zone on Sunday 16th June in Town Hall Square will have a range of activities to encourage people to walk, bike and trike into and around the city. Oh Design Foundation will have sustainable activities and workshops over the weekend.
