my journey with mental health started when i was young , not understanding how i would feel and in turn behave
i went on to suffer with substance misuse that ultimately ended with jail where i first encountered talking therapy.
I went onto attend a rehabilitation center that helped me gain some insight into my illness , here i was taken apart and mentally rebuilt by an amazing man called Patrick who had been a using addict himself.
Here i fell in love with talking therapy and its power, i went on to train as a counsellor and then a psychotherapist working with addicts and other people that needed to gain some insight and acceptance
no one is born bad i believe , we are products of our environment in most cases and when we get the chance to explore ourselves with honesty and respect we can begin to heal.
the aim of this crowdfund is to help with the running costs of providing people with some basic knowledge that may help them help themselves or someone else that may be suffering with mental ill health.
its my intension to take this mental health awareness course to all areas of Birmingham and deliver what i feel are the pivotal parts of the courses i deliver such as adult and youth mental health first aid including suicide first aid and suicide prevention.
i have been teaching people about mental health and suicide first aid since 2018 with great feedback from the course delegates ranging from construction workers , CEOs of tier one companies to general practitioners and voluntary workers including people that work with children such as football and boxing coaches.
I am a fully qualified and accredited BACP ( British association of counsellors and psychotherapists ) therapist since 2008 working with many issues such as addiction , sexual violence and general issues .
The course will give the delegate the tools and confidence to be able to contain a situation and signpost the person to appropriate avenues of support.
Early intervention is key when dealing with mental ill health , this course will not qualify you as a therapist or allow you to diagnosis however it will teach you a structured approach in helping someone in distress
