Chalgrove Community Wardrobe is an initiative that I set up a couple of years ago. People drop their good quality unwanted clothes to me a couple of days ahead of an arranged event where people can come along and take whatever they want for free, whether they have given items or not.
I love running the community wardrobe. Sustainability has always meant a lot to me, and I haven't bought any brand new clothes in many years. What's so brilliant about this initiative is that not only does it help the village be more sustainable, it's also helping those who might not be able to afford new clothes to be able to get some for free. I want to be able to expand the events that I run, but also not have to donate all of the clothes to charity after each event. I don't have the space to store everything at home so I am crowdfunding to get enough money to rent a storage unit to keep everything in. That way, I will be able to offer a better support to the village too - if someone is looking for a suit for an interview for example, and is not able to afford one, they can contact me and I can see if we have anything.
It's important to me that the initiative is not about raising money for anything, it's something that is by the village for the benefit of the village, a real community project. That being said, it's difficult to run this well without storage space so I've decided to ask the kind people of Chalgrove for help. I've looked into the prices at Jennings, and the smallest unit is £125 per month, so I'm aiming to raise £1500 so I can rent one for 12 months.
