About us

The award-winning Chain Reaction have been educating, up-skilling and increasing the confidence of severely disadvantaged 5-19 year olds since 1994. Working in areas of extreme deprivation throughout London and Essex, we ignite personal and social change by enabling vulnerable young people to:

  • Develop essential life skills, motivation and aspirations.
  • Build confidence, self-esteem and resilience.
  • Gain knowledge on health and social issues.
  • Access high-quality arts and cultural opportunities (often for the first time).

We inspire disadvantaged young people to become positive, successful members of society by devising transformative projects that inform and empower them to achieve their full potential in life. Our innovate projects respond directly to the current needs of young people and tackle the most acute social problems including teenage pregnancy, youth unemployment, gangs, social exclusion, conflict resolution, mental health, radicalisation, bullying and drugs.

Since our conception we’ve enabled over 415,000 young people from deprived areas to make positive informed choices regarding their lifestyles, behaviours and attitudes, to benefit both themselves and the wider community. The life skills that our projects teach actively improve communication and social skills whilst encouraging teamwork, problem solving and leadership; these are all fundamental skills which aren’t explicitly taught in school but are essential to progress in life.

How we do it

We have a wide range of methods to help improve people's lives and have positive social impact, including:

Youth Projects - Outside of school hours, we regularly run hugely popular free-to-attend interactive issue-based theatre and media workshop programmes in easily accessible local venues in the heart of disadvantaged communities.

Educational Theatre - Our theatre productions tackle some of the most critical health and social issues that young people face. Using a blend of parody, comedic sketches, music and pop culture we ensure that our shows have hard-hitting messages that are never forgotten.

Workshops - Our bespoke workshop programmes provide a truly supportive, creative, relaxed environment so that young people can have fun whilst gaining new skills and knowledge. Run by our skilled streetwise facilitators we address personal health and social issues in a way that young people can really get stuck into.

Commercial Theatre - Since 2002, we’ve been producing award-winning musical comedies.

Any funding that we raise through this page will enable us to continue creating empowering programmes in and out of school hours that use the arts to engage and inspire, whilst decreasing the educational disadvantage that young people face.
