We work with various communities in South East London and assist them to be economically independent through entrepreneurial and business development schemes and training programmes. At the same time, we also provide free legal advice and representation to individuals that we consider to be indigent and/or incapable of navigating the complex legal process that they are often faced with.

In 2022/23 winter, we supported 350 families to get through the cost-of-living crisis. These families consisted of unemployed, uneducated, and French-speaking women from West Africa struggling with multiple barriers and challenges. We followed up our winter support with a group discussion and all participants told us that while they appreciate the support we provided them, they would have preferred to be supported to be economically active and financially independent. In another follow-up discussion, 275 women told us that they wanted to become Ofsted childminders but do not have the capacity to do so.

Currently, we are working with all 350 women to provide them with the training and support they need to become Ofsted registered childminders. We have partnered with a local college to provide them with Level 1-3 Childcare and Young People course. We are also providing them with other essential skills training to augment the childminding training. We have started with 22 women and are targeting to train 150 in our first year and then gradually increase the number.

Our main challenge is funding for the training and we are looking for support in this area including collaboration.
