Legadel supports Orthodox Jewish children mainly in Barnet at a critical stage of their development providing an Early Intervention Service which meets the developmental & educational needs of children failing to thrive and succeed at school. Legadel offers various Interventions that can reduce future long-term costs, manage behaviour and emotions when first identified and prevent development of mental health and behavioural issues.

 The purpose for the Early Intervention is that the child is able to receive urgent support immediately. By offering therapy intervention at an early stage, it significantly reduces the need for a child to require support further into their academic journey. With Legadel being a school-based service, the provision is discreet, offered in a child centred manner, within a trusted and safe environment, which creates an essential therapy intervention service supporting both the children and their families.

Legadel supports 

• 96 children 
• 300 therapy sessions per week  
• 12 schools 
• 20 Therapists 
• 24 Key workers
• @ 8 Children receive intervention per school
• @ 2 Children per class receive intervention

Legadel offers the following therapies at significantly reduced costs to disadvantaged children who would otherwise be unable to access the required interventions: -Speech & Language Therapy (SALT), Occupational Therapy, Numeracy & Literacy support, as well as Physiotherapy . 

(Data from Barnet JSNA 2020 shows 2.61% of children in Barnet have a social, emotional or mental health need. In Barnet’s Primary School Children, it’s above the national average @ 2.54% compared in London 2.24% and England 2.45%)

Legadel’s mission statement is that no child needing therapy should go without. This then means that Legadel needs to fundraise to cover the deficit fees that disadvantaged families cannot afford to pay, in additional to raising funds to cover our core costs.
