The Trust owns, operates and maintains the Community Centre for use by individuals, community groups and sports/fitness activity and other service providers to the Carnock and Gowkhall communities in West Fife, Scotland. We also support and manage projects and activities throughout the community such as the community use Defibrillator.

Carnock & Gowkhall Community Trust

We undertake projects to support and enable a range of services and activities across the Carnock and Gowkhall community in West Fife, Scotland.

A key part of our activity is the provision of the Community Centre that allows a variety of children's groups, local organisations and individuals to access a subsidised venue and catering facility for their activities and to enjoy sports and other services offered by commercial providers. Without the Community Centre, many of these activities would not be available to the local community or would require additional travel expense and time.  The activities we have enabled include, for example:-

  • Local toddlers playgroup
  • Rainbows, Beavers, Scouts and Cubs
  • Children's Gala
  • Village gardening group
  • Art classes
  • Dog agility classes
  • Scout Post and Outdoor groups
  • Sports & Fitness - football, karate, judo, pilates, badminton

The increased costs of running the Community Centre, especially heating and lighting is expected to make the provision and access to these facilities unviable.  We anticipate operating at a loss this year and may require further increases to community hire charges in the near future.

In addition to the Community Centre, we have contributed funding towards and undertaken ongoing responsibility for a Defibrillator, recently installed in the community.

We are very grateful for the past and ongoing support and funding we receive from local residents and businesses, Fife Council and our local CoOp in Oakley. The costs of keeping the Community Centre open, warm and available for the community have become a significant burden that risks the long term availability of the Community Centre. The funding will be used to secure the provision of the Community Centre (by meeting our increased heating costs, enabling refurbishment and improvement projects such as new flooring) and other projects across the community eg maintenance of the Defibrillator and to purchase plants and trees to improve the green spaces in our community.
