Autistic Eye

Autistic Eye (www.autisticeye.co.uk) promotes, publishes and sells work by artists with autism. Since its formation in 2013 we have sold over 13,000 cards depicting work by a wide range of artists with autism. We create; a platform to showcase work, purposeful occupation for those involved and supplementary income for published artists.

Its first published book

We now hope to publish a picture story book about courage for people of all ages. The book is based on the true story of when one of our artists visited a theme park and celebrates his courage in overcoming fear of going on a ride there. It is vividly illustrated by Martin Thomas, another of our artists with autism.

Blurb:

'Carl had loved theme parks since he was very young. He loved the way that everything fitted together and was planned so well. ........Carl chose four rides. He liked them all, but his favourite was Saucer, the Flying Saucer..... It was so big, it was enormous, he liked its colours and its shape........ Carl looked up at Saucer ..... Could he possibly go on?'

Follow Carl's day at the theme park as he struggles with his fears of going on a large ride which he loves the look of, but cannot take the leap of courage to actually board.

When and why

At a time when so many people are facing uncertainty and challenge we would like to publish a book about courage and triumph over fear. We hope to publish this to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day, April 2nd 2022.

Jo Curd, the author, will read it online on World Autism Awareness Day  and those who have ordered and purchased the book beforehand can follow along in their copy that day.

Exhibiting the originals

We would then like to frame and exhibit Martin's original paintings for the benefit of all.

This project will

  • share Martin's unique work with a wide audience
  • celebrate and promote courage in those who read or listen to the story
  • show some of the courage needed and used by people with autism and their families each day
  • encourage us all to have courage to face and overcome challenges.

Please join us in this crowd funder to make this book a reality.
