The countdown to the General election is on!
Carla Denyer – climate emergency campaigner, award-winning councillor and former renewable energy engineer – has been selected as your Green Party MP candidate for Bristol West.
Carla’s successful Bristol Climate Emergency Motion was the first in Europe, driving action on climate change across the continent. In recognition, she was given an Outstanding Achievement Award by the Local Government Association. Now she’s standing to be Bristol’s first Green MP.
Carla said: “I’m proud to have been chosen to fight this election for the Green Party in the key winnable seat of Bristol West. When I get to Parliament I will work hard for the people of Bristol West.”
Carla’s priorities will be:
- Pushing for a People’s Vote and then campaigning hard for Remain
- Leading on real action to tackle the Climate Emergency
- Fighting tirelessly to reverse austerity.
We’ve launched an urgent campaign to raise funds so we can run our most effective campaign ever. We need to raise £30,000 to kick-start our campaign and hit the ground running.
While other political parties are funded by wealthy corporate donors, the Green Party is different. We’re a grassroots people-powered party, funded by thousands of people chipping in donations of £20, £50 and £100 to fund our work.
We Can Win
After convincingly winning the 2019 European Elections in Bristol, the Green Party is in the lead to win in Bristol West and send another Green MP to work alongside Caroline Lucas MP in Westminster.
Why back the Greens?
Yes to Europe
Carla’s position on Brexit is clear and unambiguous – Yes to a People’s Vote, Yes to campaigning for the UK to Remain in Europe. Unlike the Labour candidate, Carla and the Greens have consistently argued for a People’s Vote to prevent a Brexit that will be a disaster for workers, environmental protections, and the economy.

No to Climate Chaos
We need urgent action to avoid catastrophic climate change. Carla delivered the first climate emergency motion in Europe – leading the way for governments, councils and businesses across the continent. We need relentless campaigners like Carla in Westminster to force the government to live up to its promises and deliver a better future for people and planet.
Carla successfully campaigned to get Bristol University to divest from fossil fuels.
An End to Austerity
The Conservative claim that austerity has ended is a sham. Schools, hospitals, public transport and local services need to be properly funded. As a local councillor, Carla has successfully campaigned to protect libraries and parks funding, as well as the ‘Crisis Prevention Fund’ that prevents homelessness and the Council Tax Reduction Scheme that helps some of the most vulnerable people in the city. As our MP, Carla will stand up for the services we rely on.

My Pledge to You
“Bristol is an amazing, vibrant place. We should be a beacon to the rest of the country and the world, showing how by working together we can solve the problems that sometimes seem insurmountable.
Our city is talented, hard-working, imaginative, and kind, and these are the values I will try to bring as your MP. I’m a good listener, and I have an open mind. I care about people and I will always do my best to help.
As your MP, I would work for you. Green MPs aren’t whipped, so my career isn’t reliant on toeing a party line. I won’t be bought, bribed or bullied into backing a leader I don’t believe in. I would be free to listen to my constituents and vote with my conscience.”
