We are Loughborough Carillon Sports and Social Club.
We are a family friendly community sports and social club - home to Loughborough Carillon Cricket Club, Charnwood Forest Hockey Club, and Loughborough Emmanuel Football Club. We also support the residents of the Hastings Ward - one of the most economically deprived areas in the UK by providing a venue hire that caters for social, charitable or community activities.
Loughborough Carillon Cricket Club: The club offers cricket to players of all ages, with inclusivity across gender, age and ethnicity being the foundation of the club’s ethos. The youth section, on which the club was originally built, remains our number 1 priority, supporting ~100 boys and girls from ages 6 to 21 to play cricket.
Charnwood Forest Hockey Club: Mixed hockey has been played at Carillon for over 50 years. The hockey section has greatly expanded over this time and now provides men’s, women’s and mixed hockey to players of all ages with 5 men’s teams, 2 women’s teams and 3 mixed teams catering to over 100 members.
Loughborough Emmanuel Football Club Junior Academy (LEFC): The club supports junior teams from reception up to year 10 and has over 250 registered players. The club utilise the grass facilities at Carillon for Saturday league fixtures. The club also runs a 4-day spring football holiday camp, based at the Carillon venue for school years 3-8.
The club is also used by our local community, including being the hub for the Hastings Community Association Group. Members of our local community regularly hire out the facility for birthdays, weddings, meetings, live music events, fetes and many other social activities.
At the beginning of January the club was hit by flooding. The extent of the flooding exceeds anything seen by current members of the club. Because the clubhouse is built on a flood plain, we are sadly not insured for any of this damage. Our main priority is to re-open the facility so that our teams can resume training and games as quickly as possible, as well as ensuring that the local community we support have a venue to come to.
We know that the true value of the club is not on the field or in its facilities but in its spirit and community – however having somewhere to call home helps!
We are raising funds to get our wonderful clubhouse back up and running. This will repair and replace several items that were damaged by the floods, redecorate, clean, sanitise, and develop resilience for the future. For example 3 people pledging £100 will buy a new sofa. £1000 will replace carpets or buy new appliances for the community kitchen.
Loughborough Carillon Sports Club has over 500 members, with activity split across cricket, hockey and football. The diversity of the club is clearly demonstrated in the club’s membership (>30% BAME), with sport offered to all irrespective of age, gender or ethnicity. The club also plays host to numerous other local teams throughout the year including Loughborough Rugby Club, Loughborough University and numerous other social sides who hire the venue. The club is also an integral part of the local community, sitting within Charnwood Borough, and forming a key component of the Hastings Community Ward - one of the most economically deprived areas in the UK. We hire out the facility for birthdays, weddings, village fetes, live music, health and fitness clubs, and local charities. When considering the different numbers of people who use this space it can be considered a facility for not just the club members, but the whole local community.
