Who are we?
Wetwheels Torbay aims to get everyone on the water regardless of disability. Not only that but everyone is given a chance to drive the boat which as well as being extremely fun, boosts self esteem and confidence. An memorable activity which can shared with family members and friends - smiles all round.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We are raising funds for one main reason. To ensure everyone has access to Wetwheels Torbay.
The focus has been to ensure we are disabled accessible to everyone but this does not mean we are always financially accessible to everyone. We want to raise money to ensure that we do not turn anyone away simply because they cannot afford it.
The benefits of getting afloat with us are endless. It is something a family can do together and get a sense of normality. Taking in the fresh air, listening to the sound of the wildlife we encounter and feeling the sensation of being afloat stimulates everyone. Being given a chance to drive the boat is not only fun but boosts self esteem and confidence. Sea angling with a disability is now in reach for everyone.
100% of all funds will be used to help someone get afloat - 80% of our users have never been on the water before - this is something we are striving to change.
How we’ll spend the money raised
The money raised will 100% go towards subsidising trips. We work closely with other local charities, local organisations and care homes. Our main priority is to get people afloat.
We run with volunteer crew all of which are passionate about getting people afloat with us.
Each £500 pledged will get a minimum of 35 people afloat with us.
80% of our users have never been on the water before - this is something we are striving to change.
Community impact
Our local ties are strong - the boat was funded in full by local businessman James Ashton who is living with motor neurones disease. This is his legacy to ensure him and others can continue to access the water. Run by volunteer crew and the only of its kind in Devon we aim to be a focal point for being a completely disabled accessible activity including those with profound or complex needs. Ensuring we work closely with other local organisations and charities we ensure that everyone is given an opportunity to experience getting afloat with us.
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
