Aim: 'But Now My Eye Sees You' is a poetic short film that seeks to explore ideas around spirituality and queer identity
Thrice does a "Sinner" confess to her "God".
Twice does she come in shame.
Once does she see Her.
What is the film about?
In a distant future, ruled by a corrupt blend of religion and technology, a young queer woman seeks redemption through spiritual prayer. Three times, she confesses her ‘sins’, hoping for absolution from a distant, all-seeing God. But with each confession, she gradually begins to uncover the God’s own queer desires and equal yearning to be seen. In the most unlikely place, two lonely souls find each other.
'But Now My Eye Sees You' is an emotional, meditative, and hopeful exploration of how a queer person can reconcile with spirituality.
What makes it different?
As filmmakers, we strive to challenge traditional storytelling conventions and interrogate the very principles that shape our understanding of what a film can be.
In this spirit, 'But Now My Eye Sees You' is built around a central poem, with the screenplay itself crafted as a piece of poetry. Rather than following a conventional narrative structure, the film unfolds through poetic imagery, rhythm, and mood - blurring the boundaries between cinema and verse to evoke emotion in a more intuitive, impressionistic way.
We continue this exploration through the choice to shoot entirely in vertical format. This deliberate framing poses a central question: how do we reconcile high places with low ones - both physically and metaphorically?
