Who are we?
We are a martial arts club in Burnage, Manchester practicing the style Hakshinkai. We are the cheapest club in Burnage currently with 14 dedicated students and more entering through the doors every session. We have the costs low as practicing martial arts shouldn't be heavily cost effective and it health and well-being shouldn't be costly. We have been running as Burnage Karate Club for a year now and has significantly impacted the lives of many in the local community:
"Inspired by Cobra Kai, we thought it was high time we committed to some regular exercise as a family. We joined this awesome club with supportive senseis! All are welcome, kids and grown ups. It's the perfect to start to our weekends!"
Zaynab
We train once a week at our local community centre and currently have been in talks to gain more hours so that we can expand and have more students flow though the doors. We have a 100% pass rate for all our students in their grading proving that they are dedicated and have potential to achieve anything in their lives whether it is studying or focus.
We have structured lesson plans which have proven successful and we are different from any club in the area to provide support and a full understanding of that particular part of the curriculum.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Due to the cost of living crisis we were due back in February to open in another location but due to the rise of costs we are unable to do so. This has lead our club to not grow to the potential that it really needs to and not get the hours of training that the students need.
How we’ll spend the money raised
With the money raised we are going to add more hours to train and also train in a school so that we are able to give many more people the opportunity to get fit and learn a new skill. This will also help us keep our current club going with the hall expenses so that we can still stay true and local to the area that is Burnage. We also intend to spend the money on equipment e.g. breaking boards, pads so that we can heighten their training and also weapons training for those who are turning blackbelt so they can truly become a master in the art of Hakshinkai!
Community impact
Currently we run our club from the local community centre (Burnage Community Centre) where other activities are in place and we both spread what is going on in the centre at the club and vice versa. We have also participated in a raffle to which we donated 6x months free lessons worth £25 to the local school (Green End Primary School) to which we have gained more students from this. We have also helped children in the area gain confidence in lessons which has helped in their school life also!
"Great senseis and friendly atmosphere. The training is well structured and helped my daughter to gain confidence and self belief."
