At this point you can't even look at the barn floor without seeing the different iterations of sleeping people catching a few hours or rest between fun, work, and bleary eyed breakfasts. As sleepovers go, it's the best. Everything at Fivepenny is the best. We have huge starburst meals with industrial cabbage shredding machines, candles flapping in the wind outside, long benches warm with the bums of 100 landworkers. Piles of apples, acres of mud, COWS galloping over the field when they're called for feeding. It's a space you just want to share with as many people as possible. But not everyone is into a chaotic dog pile on the floor of the barn. For varied and valid reasons.
So we need to build a bunkhouse!
It is deeply needed by so many of us and so many futures we're trying to build. It will be beautiful, collaborative, and in constant use. The farthest thing you can imagine from a second home airbnb 'ecolodge'.
The bunkhouse will be accomodation for people that are coming to Fivepenny Farm to participate in the Land Skills Hub. People who use crutches, chairs, and scooters will be able to access the bunkhouse with a well-lit concrete (slip proofed) path. The bunkhouse itself will have 16 beds, including 4 wheelchair accessible beds, bathing facilities, and a compost loo. And however much we try and economise, it costs money! 60000 smackeroonies. So if you can come and build; build! And if you can cover the costs to build a small part of a wide dream, send money!
If you'd like to know more about the Land Skills Hub visit our website and here to get involved in the build, from the timber frame Grindbygg structure, live roof, straw bale infill to lime plastered walls.
