Aim: Reading should be immersive and full of opportunities for imagination. Schools have lost this - let's bring the joy back to our children!
I'm a fully qualified English teacher who left the profession when I found that I wasn't actually teaching. I was drilling kids to pass an exam and churning out robots. This isn't what I wanted to do.
When I was young, I remember the excitement of being given a new book. I remember being pulled so deeply into the story that the world around me disappeared and I remember scenes of adventure, battles, vast oceans and dense forest forming in my head. Stories were brought to life through imagination.
The school system has stamped out creativity and children are so heavily focused on passing exams and achieving that they seem to have forgotten how to play. I want to bring that childhood joy and creativity back through story telling.
I don't remember anyone at school suffering with anxiety or mental health issues. That is now the norm and I strongly believe the school system has a huge part to play in it. I'm not blaming teachers - I know many felt the same way I do. They are also stuck in the system. Let's make a change together for our children and the future.
I want to run immersive story telling classes aimed at children from 6 months old, all the way through key stage one. These classes are about bringing stories to life, allowing children to step into the pages, be creative, imaginative and play with abandon.
I'm looking for your help in raising the start-up fee to give our children back their childhood.
