Brightwell cum Sotwell Wassail!

Each year we need to raise the funds to enable the Wassail to take place.  The event is one of the most anticipated in the parish diary but does need money to host.  This year, we anticipate that the Wassail will be even better than before.  The event includes the annual Village Mummers Play and the inter parish Christmas Tree Tossing Competition.  The aim of the Wassail is to wake our apple trees p after Mid Winer has passed but also to have a lot of fun celebrating that we are a rural community. Any surpless money will be used to purchase and plant native trees across the parish.  In 2023, 46 native trees were planted, funded directly from this crowdfunding page! 

The 2024 Wassail will take place on Old Christmas Day - SATURDAY 6th January, starting in Mackney, finishing at the Red Lion Pub.  The Wassail will include the following:  The Brightwell cum Sotwell Bellyfire Dancers * Armaleggan Morris * The Tub Thumpers Band in the Red Lion * Lamb’s Wool Cider * Wassail King and Queen * Fireworks * Folk Music from Cornucopia *  The Annual Grande  Brightwell vs Sotwell vs Mackney Christmas Tree Tossing Competition * The Lord of Mischief * Fire Dances * The Annual Parish Mummer’s Play * Music in the Red Lion (from 4.30pm) * Master Shotgun and the Muzzle Loaders!
