We’re Brighton Women’s Centre and we’ve been supporting self-identifying women in Sussex for 50 years. We help women from all backgrounds, facing all kinds of issues, to live happier lives. We are run for women by women, we support those with chronic conditions, those who have faced abuse, trauma, poverty, homelessness, or are in contact with the criminal justice system. BWC is based in Brighton city centre, in one of the top 10% areas of deprivation in the UK (IMD, 2019), and we currently have services across Sussex from Crawley, to Worthing, Eastbourne, Hastings, and even stretching into Kent. We place women at the heart of our services, ensuring that every woman is Heard, Held, Happier, Hopeful.

0We’ve been supporting self-identifying women in Sussex for 50 years. We help women from all backgrounds, facing all kinds of issues, to live happier lives.
Women dealing with bereavement or trauma, women who have been through homelessness or the criminal justice system, survivors of abuse or discrimination – we’ve welcomed them all.
Each woman is an individual, with her own history, her own challenges, her own hopes.
We give her whatever kind of support she needs.
We understand that the problems in women’s lives can sometimes come from a deeper root cause – and so, using our connected services, we work to improve all parts of her life.
Through our work with each individual, we fight social injustice and advocate for gender equality. Ultimately, we give women – and wider society – the strength to succeed.
Why do we need Women’s Centres?
- With women leading countries around the world, you may think that the work on women’s rights is done. Yet equality isn’t a reality for everyone: here in the UK, for every £1 a man earns, a woman receives only 85p
- 2 women a week are killed by their current or ex-partner
- From pre-covid data - the numbers of reported rapes have doubled but only 7% lead to a conviction
- Average age of death for a woman sleeping rough is 41
- 84% sentenced female prisoners are held for non-violent crimes
- When mothers are sent to prison 95% of children are removed from their care and lose their homes. When fathers are sent to prison 95% of their children stay in the family home
