Aim: Raising donations to make the Bridges Festival happen again next year!
As part of the Octagon's first ever Bridges Festival supporting young people and adults with learning disabilities and additional needs we’ll be hosting a Danceathon on 3rd July. From 10am - 3pm, the Octagon team, participants and supporters are pledging to dance non-stop in our auditorium to raise money towards next year’s Festival - and they need your help!
The Festival this year has been made possible thanks to all the generous donations raised through our Big Give appeal in April - thank you to everyone who supported. We are aiming to raise £2,000 in a day through the Danceathon to kick-start our fundraising towards making the Festival happen again next year.
The Bridges Festival includes a series of arts events made with, by and for learning disabled and neurodivergent young people and adults. The Festival will culminate in new performances by our three current Bridges groups and will include personal and professional development opportunities for existing Bridges participants to develop their skills as artists and creative facilitators.
Evidence of the positive impact participating in arts activity has on people with additional needs includes aiding self-expression, communication, increasing self-esteem, confidence & enhancing skills. It is proven to counteract loneliness, anxiety & depression. Our award-winning, year round Bridges groups use theatre & arts to build confidence & social skills. Staging an annual Bridges Festival will celebrate & elevate their achievements, further increase confidence & self esteem as well as putting this work centre stage so we can reach more people who will benefit.
Thank you for your support.
