Every year 1 in 770 babies are diagnosed with hydrocephalus. There is no cure for the condition and usually the only treatment option is invasive brain surgery.
It is not uncommon for children as young as 11 to have endured 25 brain surgeries with many children having had many more surgeries than birthdays.
As a consequence of their medical interventions and frequent hospital visits many children will develop trauma and suffer with mental health problems.
We want to recognise these children by giving them a Bravery Bear. These beautiful bears are designed to recognise their bravery and show them that people care. We know that the bears not only help the child but are also a visual reminder to families that they are heard, supported and that their struggle is understood by people with first hand experience of the journey.
