On the 30th December 2023 we'd raised £303 with 11 supporters in 49 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Brass@BontAcademy, launched in June 2022 by members of the Bont Band, is aiming to preserve the brass band tradition of enabling people of all ages and from all backgrounds to learn to perform music within and for their local community. Having begun with just 20 members we are delighted that we have grown over the last 12 months to 50 members.
We welcome players of all ages and abilities and are based in the Pontardulais Band room. Brass@Bont Academy rehearsals are staffed by a team of volunteers who are brass musicians and teachers with a wealth of experience in the field. Alongside weekly rehearsals there are opportunities to attend free summer schools and weekend workshops as well as regular opportunities to perform in the local community.
We now have more potential players who would like to join us BUT we have run out of instruments for them to play. To enable inclusivity it is important that we can loan instruments to players free of charge if required.
How can you help us?
The band would be grateful for your support in helping us to raise £1980 by either making a donation or purchasing one of our rewards. Any donation you can make will make a real difference to preserving a fantastic part of our Welsh heritage and build a future generation of brass players. During the next year we would like to purchase a student euphonium (approx. £600), a baritone (approx. £490) a trombone (approx. £350) and some additional cornets (approx. £270).
You may also have an unused brass instrument in your home that you could donate to us - if so please contact [email protected].
