Braemar Care has had to unexpectedly replace our much used and valued Raizer. The total cost of a Raizer is £4000 and we are hoping to recoup some of this.
While the cost of a Raizer is no small expense, the value of this piece of equipment is priceless.
One of our volunteers has said:
"I've unfortunately had to deploy the Raizer for several clients this year. It's now a fact that with our demographic (and our weather!) more people fall more often and sometimes need some extra help. In 5 falls that I have been called to, just this year, 3 of them needed this equipment - and that's with 2 healthy volunteers on the scene!
I hope the village can rally to help Braemar Care to replace this invaluable community kit!"
A member of the community who has had to use the Raizer has said:
"I bent over to pick something up and I fell to the ground. I realised that I couldn't get myself up, so I pressed my panic alarm and to my relief two Braemar Care folk arrived within 5 - 10 minutes, and one had already picked up the Raizer from the Fire Station. With medical help, they assessed it was okay to move me and built some tubes and pads around me as I lay there. They strapped me in and within minutes, the machine had lifted me up and transformed into a chair! We then waited for a couple of hours for the paramedics to arrive, assess my wounds and take me to hospital. At least I was sitting up!"
Another user stated:
"I'd fallen in an awkward position and the Braemar Care volunteers who responded to my alarm call couldn't move me. I don't know what we would have done without the Raizer machine as I'm quite heavy and was stuck in an awkward corner, with a very sore arm. I was up within minutes and drinking a cup of tea!"
