Bow Butts Park, Community Ownership

by Crail Community Partnership in Crail, Scotland, United Kingdom

We did it
On 24th October 2020 we successfully raised £4,666 ( + est. £586.50 Gift Aid ) with 61 supporters in 30 days

We want Bow Butts Park to be owned by the Crail community so that the community can control how the land is used and how it is enhanced.

 New stretch target

Any money raised over our initial target of £3,000 will go towards more planting, a bench (or 2), and equipment to maintain the areas in the Wild Crail Green Network.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Crail Community Partnership has successfully applied for asset transfer of Bow Butts Park, but we need funds to help us complete the legal transfer process. We would also like to raise funds to carry out planting, that will enhance this green space for wildlife.

Please help us complete this transaction. Community ownership means Crail can determine how this land is used in the future.

Driven by the community

The Crail Charrette was triggered by the news that Crail is to have up to 320 houses built in Crail North. During the Crail Charrette carried out in 2018-19, large scale support for environmental enhancement was identified, both during informal community drop-ins and formal community meetings involving over 500 stakeholders. For example, in a survey with representative participation from all ages and community groups the overall “winner” in terms of what we should be doing to develop our community was:

  • More woodland areas
  • More wildlife areas

Connecting people with nature

The Crail Local Place Plan was created out of the charrette and it specifically asks for a green corridor that runs through Crail into the Crail North development. Bow Butts Park can be the link to the green corridor in Crail North. Bow Butts will also be an integral part of the Wild Crail Paths Network, and will bring increased biodiversity, recreational space, and an opportunity for enhanced environmental education.

Crail Community Partnership was set up in 2019 to implement the Crail Local Place Plan and was set up as a community anchor organisation representative of many of Crail's groups and organisations.

It is important that as a community we should try to influence or control how our local environment develops, for our own sense of wellbeing in Crail and to develop a more natural green environment.

How you can help to make this happen

This crowdfunder allows you to either make a direct donation, or to pledge on one of our brilliant rewards.

Our rewards range from an exclusive opportunity to sponsor the Bow Butts project, to a printed wild bird photograph by local photographer John Anderson, to a wonderful Dawn Chorus Walk with wildlife specialist Will Cresswell (who features in our video above).

And there are trees, seeds and 'thank yous' a plenty.

So please take a look and pledge on your favourite thing.

Here's a beautiful example of John Anderson's work:

The wildflower seeds will be a mixture of these flowers:

We very much hope to raise enough to ensure Bow Butts Park can become a wonderful area for nature to thrive, and benefit the Crail community for years to come. Thank you for taking the time to read this page - we would really appreciate your support both financially, and in helping to spread the word about this crowdfunder.
