Bouldering Play For Disabled Young People

Who Are We?

At Portland Charity, our mission is to create lifelong opportunities for people with disabilities. We rely on the support of our community to develop inclusive, life-changing services.

We provide Ofsted Outstanding specialist education, employability programs, residential and day care services, and our fully accessible Woodland Adventure Zone. We believe that all individuals with disabilities should have a lifetime of opportunities, and this vision drives everything we do.

Now, we’re raising funds to develop a new Outdoor Bouldering Play Area—a fun and challenging space designed for individuals with disabilities and neurodiversities.

The Outdoor Bouldering Play Area will serve as a fundamental introduction to bouldering for people who need to develop their confidence in a fun, safe environment before progressing onto more challenging activities.

Why it's Essential

The new Outdoor Bouldering Play Area will:

• Be a Safe Space: People with physical and/or learning disabilities can develop their health and well-being, increase confidence and communication skills. 
• Provide an Engaging Challenge: It will offer an exciting opportunity for people to climb, helping them build strength and resilience through outdoor play.
• Be a Stepping Stone: The play area will encourage people to develop their climbing skills in a safe environment, preparing them for bigger challenges in our Woodland Adventure Zone, including our 7m climbing and abseiling tower.
• Encourage Families to Visit Portland: The play area will draw families to our site, encouraging them to explore our other facilities, such as our coffee shop and Woodland Adventure Zone. Increased footfall will generate essential income to support the wider work of our charity.

Community Impact

At Portland Charity, we empower disabled individuals and cultivate an inclusive community. Our Newstart Hall serves as a state-of-the-art venue for sports, arts, and events, offering inclusive programmes like Boccia, Club Nights, and Basketball tailored to all abilities. The Woodland Adventure Zone enhances the well-being of our learners and community through accessible activities—from ziplining to sensory play.

The new Outdoor Bouldering Play Area will amplify our impact by providing an inclusive space for physical activity and skill development. This exciting addition will attract new visitors, raising awareness of our mission and the essential work we do. As families and community members gather to enjoy this new enrichment, they will discover the opportunities Portland offers, further embedding our charity within the community and ensuring that everyone has access to growth, learning, and enjoyment.

How Your Donations Will Help

We need to raise £30,000 to bring this project to life! We’re excited to announce that Sport England has pledged £7,488 in National Lottery funding through their Movement Fund, provided we also raise £7,488 through this crowdfunding campaign through 75 unique supporters, so we need your help!
