We are aiming to support HOLAH (House of Love and Hope) in South Africa with a grant of £2,500 towards the installation of a borehole.

 New stretch target

The extra money will go towards the shortfall of the project budget, meaning we have to raise less from external partnerships.

HOLAH is a Baby Home and Home for Special Needs children where the team focus on children with special needs and babies/children aged from birth to 11 years of age. They currently have 11 special needs children all with various levels of cerebral palsy, down syndrome, and 10 toddlers and babies in their care.

This year, the HOLAH Centre is struggling with the desperate need for a borehole installation on their property to combat the water shortages in the area. Since early October 2023, they have had constant water disruptions and currently go at least 5 days without any water at all. They have been managing with rainwater from the JoJo tanks, filling up containers at friends and neighbours, and donations of bottled water from the general public. Their water concern is not going to be solved any time soon, and GAGA UK want to help them find a long-term solution that will be a great benefit not only for the children and carers on the property but also make a huge difference to their monthly municipal account.

The best way to do this is to install a borehole on the premises. A borehole is a deep, narrow hole made in the ground which is used to locate and extract water. This would solve HOLAH’s water issues and ensure that they had safe water year round even when the local area suffers from water shortages.

The costs associated with this project are as follows:

  • Borehole drilling: ZAR 70,380 (£3,001)
  • Pump installation: ZAR 46,024 (£1,963)
  • TOTAL: ZAR 116,403 (£4,964)

We hope to raise £2,500 from our wonderful community of supporters through this Crowdfunder and the remaining shortfall from trust and foundation partnerships to be enable HOLAH to install the borehole before the quickly approaching winter months. We can not do this without your help! Please support this project with a donation - any amount will go a long way towards providing these vulnerable children with an uninterrupted water supply and help give them the start in life they deserve.
