Books about Town will hit the streets of London in summer 2014. Trails of benches shaped as open books, decorated by famous illustrators and local artists, will appear for the public to enjoy. It will be a unique opportunity to explore the capital's literary connections, to enjoy art from some of the country's top artists and to experience the joy of reading for pleasure.
We are looking for pledges from the public to fund one of these benches, a fantastic interpretation of the timeless classic Great Expectations, in order to celebrate the contribution of Charles Dickens to our literary heritage.
The Victorian masterpiece examines the issues of social mobility and self-improvement, themes which remain relevant today. Its examination of the importance of education for all makes Great Expectations the perfect choice for a crowdfunded BookBench.
‘On-common. Give me,’ said Joe, ‘a good book, or a good newspaper, and sit me down afore a good fire, and I ask no better. Lord!’ he continued, after rubbing his knees a little, ‘when you do come to a J and a O, and says you, ‘Here, at last, is a J-O, Joe,’ how interesting reading is!’
Pledging to jointly sponsor a bench is your chance to be involved in this unique event, and to receive a number of exclusive goodies and opportunities.
