Who are we?
Boldon Squash Club is a small but friendly club - we offer four courts 365 days of the year with bookings every 45 minutes, from early morning until late in the evening. Internal leagues played throughout the year, squash competitions and a well stocked bar.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Boldon Squash Club currently has over 160 members and 4 teams competing in the Northumbria Squash leagues. Last season our 1st team was promoted into the top (Premier) division and we hosted an Open squash tournament earlier this year.
Feedback from visiting teams is always very complimentary regarding the state of the courts, largely due to the work of volunteers who take great pride in providing the best playing and spectating environment for its members.
The club holds a number of internal competitions each year including the club championship and the club handicap. Each one is well subscribed and finals nights are very popular events.
Each week the club hosts 2 very popular social evenings (Tuesday and Thursday) where members get together and play friendly games and afterwards socialise in the bar (food is usually consumed too).
We have 2 qualified coaches at the club who run 2 junior sessions a week, Friday and Saturday aimed at encouraging the next generation to take up the sport on a regular basis.
To take the club to the next level we wish to provide an even better experience for our members, either playing, being coached or spectating. Providing a glass back court will do this.
The current viewing gallery has limited space to watch important matches like the finals of the competitions that are held. A glass back wall would allow more spectators to see the proceedings, particularly those with limited mobility who are unable to use the stairs to view from the gallery.
How we’ll spend the money raised
The money raised will be spent on replacing the existing brick and plaster wall with a glass wall and door. This will provide spectators with an unrestricted view of the play on court and increase the "crowd capacity" when competition matches are being played.
Access to the court from ground level as well as being able to view the action from ground level will help the coaching of our juniors and seniors alike.
Community impact
Once a month the club opens its doors to the local community for the "Sunday Social". Anyone can come and try out the game of squash in a friendly and inclusive way in the hope that they get the bug and continue to play.
Boldon Squash Club offers the opportunity to anyone to get involved with a sport that will feature at the next Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Our courts are also used for Racketball, which is proving popular.
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
