Bodmin Walking Netball

Aim: To deliver coaching sessions and walking netball activities tailored for older women, encouraging physical fitness and social interaction.

We are the Bodmin Wigglers and we wiggle in more ways than one.  We are part of an inclusive community where older women can stay active, healthy and socially connected through walking netball.  Our vision is to empower older ladies to rediscover the joy of sport, build confidence and form lasting friendships proving that age is no barrier to fun, fitness and teamwork.

Why are we crowdfunding?

This is where you should explain the reason you need to raise money, are you launching a new women's team? Perhaps you need to improve facilities or buy new kit? Tell us here.

We have an established team which includes ladies that just want to drop in and play socially then we have a group who like to compete.  We are seeking funding to support the growth and sustainability of our walking netball team for older women.  The funds will help us purchase kit and equipment, cover court hire costs and enable us to extend our sessions to reach more participant.  We want to ensure we can provide a safe inclusive and well equipped environment.

We would also like to put on regular tournaments and reach out to the wider netball community in Cornwall, so that we can increase the uptake of this modified game, which is amazing.  

Many Cornish towns have groups for older people but not many encourage sport and fitness.  It’s like you reach a certain age and all your fit for is knit and natter well at Bodmin Walking Netball we have ladies that are not nearly ready for that and they want to represent their town and club and show off netball skills and compete against other clubs.

How we’ll spend the money raised

If we were allocated funding it would go towards sustaining our club, training new hosts, help towards court hire and help to pay for kit and equipment.

our court hire is £45.00 an hour and would like to increase this but our members currently pay and play therefore we need to  guarantee that this is affordable each week.

balls - they wear out so quickly!  It would be good to purchase 8 new balls.  These costs approximately £15 each.

training aids - it would be great to purchase additional training aids when we have our fitness sessions.  We would like to purchase a crazy catch £115.00 so our ladies can use this to strengthen their arms and improve on their throwing technique.

Match dresses - we would like to provide our competitive team match dresses which are approximately £20 each.

Community impact

Our club attracts ladies from Bodmin and outlying parishes and the impact it has on our ladies is amazing.  some of them are single and widows and our sessions have helped them make friends and socialise.  There’s not a lot for ladies to do who are within our age group 50 plus and in our community there’s very little clubs on offer if  you want to play sport and get involved in a team.

How you can play your part

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!

4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
