Our purpose is to encourage the protection of Endangered primates by developing conservation and research initiatives that are inclusive, fair and sustainable, raising awareness about the illegal primate trade, communicating research findings, providing capacity building and training in the UK and internationally all with regard to primate conservation.

BMAC uses both social and natural science research techniques to develop and apply practical conservation and development strategies. The majority of these strategies involve awareness raising both locally and nationally to foster an intrinsic rather than an economic value for these unique primates and thus eradicate the demand for the species by the illegal pet trade. Capacity building in areas of macaque habitat is also key in providing alternative livelihood strategies and reducing the financial necessity of capturing infant macaques from the wild.
