Aim: We can't put it off, we're a mature group and we're not getting any younger! Please support us!
I'm Alex, a 75 year old former ballet dancer with the Royal Ballet and other companies. Ballet is my heritage, and I'm still dancing professionally. My life in ballet inspired me to tell its story from the Renaissance to the present day. I have been working with a company of mature actors and dancers, together we devised an amusing and sometimes crazy show which we toured around Bristol and Bath in 2023. We were often sold out. The public, it seems, is curious about the fantastical history of ballet and its development. Our mature actors and dancers, most of them in their 60s and 70s threw themselves into this project in which we tell the stories, through dance, words and my own experiences, of the great characters from ballet history; Pavlova, Isadora Duncan, Diaghilev, Nijinsky, Karsavina, Rambert, De Valois, Fonteyn, Nureyev and Darcey Bussell. We also look at the techniques of the dance; arm and leg position and the pointe shoe for instance. But this is NOT a lecture, this is a funny, witty, whizz through ballet's history to spark interest, answer questions and entertain!
