Bringing the Ocean to Hospitalised Children

Aim: Join us to pilot a VR ocean experience to support hospitalised children. Your support will provide therapeutic distraction when most needed.

Blue Bubble Immersive aims to bring the ocean to hospitalised children through virtual reality (VR). This immersive experience is designed to ease anxiety, support mental health and provide therapeutic distraction during medical procedures.

Imagine this... 

A child lies in a hospital bed, anxious and afraid. Then, with a VR headset, they are transported into an underwater world.

Dolphins glide by. Clownfish dart among anemones. Kelp forests sway gently in the current.

In that moment, fear fades. Replaced by calm, awe and wonder.

Several UK hospitals have already agreed to pilot our 7-minute immersive ocean film. Paediatric emergency departments, hospital wards and those providing end of life care recognise the potential Blue Bubble Immersive has for their patients. Your donation will make these pilots happen. 

Blue Bubble Immersive needs your support to:

• Purchase VR headsets that align with hospital standards
• Help us evaluate which footage best supports patients and different procedures
• Grow and adapt to maximise benefits to patients, parents and healthcare staff
• Bring the ocean to more children, despite medical or socioeconomic factors
• Develop therapeutic 360 ocean films for specific medical procedures

Studies show VR therapy reduces anxiety and procedure pain, making procedures like blood tests faster and less stressful for children, families and staff.

🦭 Supporting mental health needs
1 in 5 UK children face mental health challenges. Research shows that exposure to virtual “blue spaces”, like the sea, helps reduce stress and improve wellbeing. Blue Bubble Immersive can deliver a calming connection to nature, even from a hospital bed.

🦭 Shared experiences for families
Patients and their family can experience the underwater world together, creating moments of joy and connection at a difficult time.

🦭 No extra room needed
Hospitals are busy, and space is limited. VR offers accessible and non-intrusive bedside respite.

🦭 Oceans for All
Medical, social or economic barriers mean 1 in 5 UK children never see the ocean. Blue Bubble Immersive aims to bring the ocean to them. By sparking children’s natural curiosity, we hope to inspire future ocean custodians. Connecting with nature is vital for both personal wellbeing and the health of our planet.
