Girlguiding delivers a huge range of exciting activities, opportunities and experiences for girls and young women in Plympton. Betts Guiding Centre is their home and also hosts other local community groups. Our volunteers work hard to care for the property but are now in need of some financial support to make the kitchen fit for purpose. Between 250 and 300 people use the facilities at Betts every week in term time, so our kitchen, needs to withstand a lot of use. It is also currently not very accessible for our members with additional physical needs whilst also accommodating our smallest Rainbows to our tallest Rangers. This is our opportunity to take on a project to really get the kitchen design right for everyone.
As well as hosting community events and groups, we use the kitchen to teach our members vital skills as they grow up with us - whether that's baking, creating meals or preparing to leave home - we have a great opportunity to share skills and learn about nutrition in this kitchen.
Whilst our kitchen currently functions, it is hard for our volunteers to clean after each session, much of the equipment is suffering from years of use and we are struggling to ventilate the room properly. This project plans to start from scratch, with a committee put together from our building management committee, our Girlguiding leaders and others who can help with their expertise to make the kitchen a reality. We anticipate it will take around 2 years to complete so we can get it right and raise the funds required (still being estimated).
We're fundraising in a number of ways and your generous donation is part of that. Thank you for your kind gift.
