Creating better access to our services is our aim, in doing so will allow families with pushchairs or mobility issues easy access.

by Alison Louise Fraser in Consett, County Durham, United Kingdom

my name is Alison, I am a registered Midwife (with 19 years experience). The last few years of my NHS career I worked as a Community Midwife in an area of high deprivation. I wanted to offer more to the community than I could do within the time and financial constraints of the NHS and this is how Tiny Toes Bumps and Babies was born. Starting in 2017 whilst still working for the NHS offering baby massage classes. Developing swiftly and becoming a CIC in 2019 I went on to offer Antenatal Classes and Aromatherapy Consultations alongside baby massage.

The aim of the business is to support families through pregnancy, baby's first year and beyond, supporting positive relationships, access to quality support and advice and providing the foundations for positive mental wellbeing.

In a further aim to fulfil the aim of the business we moved property in July to create a Pregnancy and Baby Centre in the centre of Consett and now provide the following:

Antenatal Classes

Preconception Counselling

Baby Massage

Baby Sign Language

Baby First Aid Classes

Holistic Therapies

Mindfulness and Meditation

Feeding and Changing Facilities

Sensory Room and Messy Play

Sleep Consultancy and Support Group

Toy library

Nappy bank

Support Groups for feeding, new parents, pregnancy, dads, tongue-tie and more

The classes are subsidised by the provision of a Baby Boutique with all profits going into the running of the building and keeping costs to service users low.

We do have ONE downside and that is that it is a first floor property - otherwise it is perfect!!

It is combating this issue that we are aiming for with our crowd funding project. After much research we have discovered that we are able to purchase and fit a fold down, flat platform lift which may be used for pushchairs/Prams for easy access to the services we offer, however in 2021 I was quoted £11.000 for the equipment plus labour costs for fitting and replacing the external door for easy access. With such a large expense this project has been put on the backburner until now, and the starting of our crowdfunder. Our aim is for 2022 to make the services we offer accessible to all.
