Freya Benedict is fundraising for Rays Of Sunshine Charity No. 1102529
£1,393
Hello! My name is Freya, I'm 16 years old and I am raising money in aid of Rays of Sunshine through participating in the Bermuda Triangle Challenge 2025.
What is The Bermuda Triangle Challenge? This is a running/walking event that takes place over the course of 3 days (January 17 - 19) in which we partake in three races across the island - A mile on the first day, a 10k on the second, and a half-marathon on the final day.
Who are Rays Of Sunshine? Rays of Sunshine are a UK based charity that brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families by granting wishes and providing ongoing support within hospitals, in unbelievably challenging times. In the UK alone, there are over 85,00 young people living with a life-threatening or life-limiting illness, and with this number increasing annually, Rays Of Sunshine work to positively impact as many young lives as possible, by creating positive distractions and precious memories for all those that they can, with the belief that every child deserves to feel happiness and put their illness on hold - even if that can only be for a day.
Now, why have I chosen Rays of Sunshine? I will be running for this charity, most prominently in memory of a very special person, Joseph Lunn. Joe was a phenomenal character whose strength and story is beyond inspiring. He was the older brother of a very dear friend of mine, and he sadly passed away in the spring of 2021 following a battle with synovial sarcoma, a rare and incurable type of cancer, at the age of just 19. Rays Of Sunshine played an instrumental role in helping both him and his family through the exceedingly tough times they faced, and I have had the honour of being able to see the joy this charity provide. Although I won't go into much of the detail, their contribution to his life, and the strength they gave his family was and is phenomenal.
I must also mention two other very special people: Katie and Myles Hayden. Katie is a very close friend of mine, and Myles is her wonderful younger brother. They too have faced the challenges of battling childhood cancers, and I am far beyond proud of them both! Myles is officially cancer-free, and Katie is scheduled to be ringing the bell in just a couple of weeks, which is going to be incredibly special, signaling the end of her battle!
So in summary, I will be participating for Joe, for Katie, for Myles, and for all the children (and their families) whose lives have been drastically changed by a serious illness. My aim is to keep Joe's memory alive, raise awareness of children's cancer, and to play, even if just a small one, a role in being able to provide other children and families with rays of happiness.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me, and to many others! It is very much appreciated! xxx
