Legacy Fundraiser in memory of composer, programmer, C64 musician, father, husband and friend, Ben Daglish who passed away on 01/10/18

by Debbie Adele in Oker, England, United Kingdom

It came with much sadness that earlier this month we announced the loss of a great friend, Ben Daglish. Ben passed away suddenly on Monday, 1 October 2018 due to complications brought on by lung cancer.  This loss has sent shockwaves throughout friends, family and music communities and around the world, and has affected the lives of so many who loved and admired Ben.

He was, and still is in our hearts, a man of great talent and enthusiasm. A loving father to Jake (23), Rhianna (20) and Lottie (7), a husband and partner to Sarah, and a great friend to an endless number of others. Ben brought a smile, conversation, debate and inspiration to us all. He was a big part of the community in Matlock Derbyshire, where he spent many years volunteering for Woodcraft Folk, and kickstarted Matlock Pirate Day which over a decade on is still going strong.

Ben leaves behind a great legacy in the music and computer community in various locations around the world, as well as with all the people who have known him. He was a great programmer and musician, having composed many works for the C64 and the early games scene, and was greatly admired and loved by that community. Some of his work can be seen via Facebook Page Ben Daglish C64, and there are many interviews, music videos and podcasts on YouTube.

His work inspired many to start creating music and we have had messages and tributes from all around the world, in mind of his inspiration we hope we can return the gift he gave to us. In light of his loss, we are setting up a Ben Daglish Fund for his family and as a musical legacy. This was an unexpected loss, and many people have reached out to ask if they can support in any way. Following this sentiment, we would like to support his family and set up the Ben Daglish Young Performers Fund at Stainsby Folk Festival where Ben was a Trustee and MC, and where his absence will be felt greatly by all.

Proceeds will go to the memorial/funeral costs, financial support for the family, and create the Ben Daglish Young Performers Legacy at Stainsby Festival.

Thank you for your support.
