Hi my name is Roslyn and I am a Creative facilitator based in London. Since a little girl, it has
been a dream of mine, to build a school for boys and girls, who come from less privileged
backgrounds.
Why? Studying in Nigeria and finishing the majority of my education in the UK, I experienced
the profoundness and difference in the educational sector. Now as a woman, I see
education more than the core subjects to fit in society.
It is more empowering when we teach and assist the youth through creativity. As creativity
is one of the best ways to bring out the gifts and talents that a child has been born with. It is
crucial to nurture the abilities of the next generation as the world is taking a new leap of
innovation and we want to equip and prepare our children to be leaders and not be left
behind. Their gifts are what makes a change not only in their life’s but their family,
community and nation.
My ultimate vision and mission are to provide a space where young people can learn and
develop into bright future leaders in their own right, activate their gifts and become a
generation that will make a change within their communities and bigger world. In 2017, I
volunteered with Make A Step C.I.C at Bella Rehabilitation Centre school, Kenya. This
experience was like no other, and it reminded me how important that dream I had as a little
girl was. The children at Bella were so welcoming, friendly, smart and ready to learn.
With such a wonderful vibrancy from the students, staff and community it was very difficult
to learn of the school being forcefully removed from their previous buildings by foreign
investors, with no opportunity to negotiate, which resulted in losing children to join their
new site, a lack of funds to send their children to school, and lack of funds for the school to
provide a school bus.
Bella Rehabilitation Centre provides essential services to children in need, including
education, shelter, food to the vulnerable and orphans in the surrounding slum
communities. By participating in this mission this August 29th - 8th September, I will deliver
creative workshops, educational support, and recreational activities that are vital for the
holistic development of these young individuals with Make A Step. This experience is not
just about giving, it's also about mutual learning and growth. This means a great deal to me,
as it is important to see the students, getting more opportunities and fair chance of having a
stable place to study and develop their gifts and talents. The youth are the future, but
without our help, what kind of future will they have? How will they be able to develop
socially, mentally and academically if they are in constant fear and worry? To live in
uncertainty is to live in fear and I want to see these students, teachers and parents live
without any fear of the future but rather be ready to make a difference in the future, which
starts today.
What I have raised so far!
In 2022 I raised £600 through putting on a community play to go towards helping Bella with
school materials. This year my aim is to raise £1600 for Bella and assist with travel
expenses. This will help a great deal as Bella are facing flooding challenges, that has
disrupted the way they take their lessons. Now, we can only imagine the effect this will have
on the students, teachers and parents from the local community. Bella school is in great
need of our support in resolving their current challenge, so they study and teach in peace.
How you can help? I appreciate and I am forever grateful to you, for taking the time out to
read and support this mission.
