We are working on behalf of Plymouth Communities Befriending Consortium. P.C.B.C.
We are a small community based project working with isolated older people, and vulnerable people in the city. We have been helping older people since 2006.
We provide lunch clubs, outings, coffee mornings, home visits for those that find it difficult to leave their homes. A chaperone service.
As we age we find that we socialise less, our health dwindles, our mobility may also start to suffer. The older we get we may find our friends also start to pass away. All of these sad, but true. For all of us.
A lot of us have had grandparents, or parents that we probably dont visit as often they would like? Its not that we dont care, it's generally getting on with our lives that takes over.
By giving older people a chance to make friends in the same position, socialise, and have fun. Makes a massive difference to their health. Both physically, and mentally.
It's proven that older people will spend less time going to their G.P, if they are busy. Going to a club just once a week, gives that person purpose, something to get up and dressed for, and something to talk about when family do visit. If they have any family at all.
Due to an illness within our organisation, we have found our selves at a crossroads with regards to funding.
This year we are reaching out to our local community for help.
I will be trying to embark on a crowd funding opportunity. Plymouth City Council will match fund our efforts up to the tune of ten thousand pounds, if we can meet their criteria, and our target?
We will be running a fund raising event, in the near future. (Watch this space)
All donations will go towards keeping us going, until more secure funding can be accessed.
We know that times are difficult for everyone at the moment, and rising costs are hitting everyone. That is why more than ever we need to look after our own community.
