The aim of this project is to raise funds for a feasibilty study for a cycle/shared way to Okehampton

by lynn.daniel in Sticklepath, England, United Kingdom

 New stretch target

We can get the feasibility study completed

  • Sticklepath is a small Dartmoor village with few buses. The roads and lanes are busy with motor vehicles and very few  have verges or pavements making cycling, walking  or horse riding risky.
  •  Children and adults who want to get to school safely or into the nearest town,  without using a car need a safe way to do this.
  • There have been a lot of near misses between vehicles and other road users locally. I have been in the nettles a few times escaping fast cars. A horse died and the rider injured a few years ago in collison with a vehicle.  I don't think anyone should have to take these risks.
  •  Local people have have formed a group to create a dedicated shared path through the villages and into the nearest town, Okehampton a distance of 5 kilometres away.
  • The path will be a link between the primary school,  the secondary school,  the new railway station and the Granite Way cycle shared path.
  • Ultimately I have a vision of a  pathway across West Dartmoor from Bovey Tracey to Tavistock, it would be a safe cycle/ shared  route across our beautiful county. This is achievable if we work together.
  • The Beacon shared path is a part of this larger vision for a connected path network across Dartmoor.
  •  Many more people would cycle or walk locally if it was safer to do so. It would benefit visitors as well as people who live here.
  • To achieve our goal we need to raise the funds for a feasibility study from Sustrans, after this it will be funding from local authorities and government.
  •  We have raised half of the £6000 required locally, and are asking for support from crowdfunders to achieve the rest.
  • An amount of £3000 is what it will take to get us there. We need your support for this great project, please donate what you can.
