Aim: I was slammed with a pretty savage £30,000 costs order after a failed challenge to a s.43 order based on the wrongful 2014 convictions
After teaming up with my old friend Dr Henry Kissinger in 1999 to prevent al Qaeda acquiring fissile material (U-235), which they intended to use in what we now know as 9/11, I became known as something of a specialist in tracking missing nuclear warheads and fissile material. I first got involved in intelligence work in the mid-90s, working with Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Michael Beetham and Bomber Command veterans on an under the radar operation to identify the German spy in Whitehall who betrayed our targets to the Abwehr, driving up Bomber Command losses. After I successfully negotiated General Pinochet's return to Chile in 1999/2000 the intelligence side of my life really took off!
I also became a specialist in the covert German DVD, set up by Admiral Wilhelm Canaris in 1943 to take over from the Abwehr and the Gestapo after Germany's defeat.
In 2012 I was alerted, using cut-outs, by the then head of the Russian GRU, Major-General (later Colonel-General) Igor Sergun, to the presence in London of a thermonuclear SS-N-19 warhead stolen from the sabotaged Russian submarine Kursk in 2000. I tried to alert the Secretary of State for Defence, on the advice of my old friend Air Marshal Sir John Walker, but the warning was intercepted by a DVD asset in Whitehall, the Cabinet Secretary, no less, Sir Jeremy Heywood, who ordered MOD to wipe the tape of their phone call to me and shred their contemporaneous note, making up a bogus note. He also ordered Thames Valley Police to arrest me. Heywood was finally taken out by MI5 in 2018, using a bio-weapon supplied by Porton Down.
The trial was a farce, presided over by a judge who with respect was blackmailed over his mistress. (His Honour was taken out in early 2022 by the DVD's London operation, GO2). I was convicted and sent to prison. In HMP Brixton I was forced to share a cell with the notorious gay serial killer Stephen Port. (I am gay and was outed during the proceedings.) Happily he was only interested in good-looking young men. I'm past my best, I'm afraid, and no oil painting! At any rate he didn't murder me, in fact he turned out to be quite a nice serial killer, as serial killers go.
I was disbarred on the basis of this corruptly obtained conviction, coupled with an equally dodgy prosecution for illegal gay porn, after TVP downloaded some images onto a memory stick which looked like one unlawfully seized from my home without a warrant.
A judge ruled that I could challenge my convictions before the Disciplinary Tribunal, but she was forced off the case and another judge parachuted in, who ruled that a barrister cannot challenge a conviction however wrongly obtained.
After my release from prison I started work as a legal consultant. Solicitors sent me lots of work, so the SRA made a s.43 order banning solicitors from remunerating me. Again a judge was parachuted in at the last moment, in the High Court, and ruled that I could not challenge my convictions, even though forensic evidence had by then blown away the images conviction. It was also clear that the prosecution had misled the jury in the bomb hoax trial.
I was ordered to pay three lots of costs (SRA, Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal and High Court), totalling around £30,000 including VAT. I have paid off the SRA and SDT costs but still have around £20,000 to pay. I am struggling, not least because the wrongful order limits the amount of work I can do.
I would treat any payments made through this site as subject to a Quistclose trust, that is to say they would be dedicated payments, limited to paying the SRA. I am notifying the SRA that I have set up a crowdfunding site and will keep them informed of the amounts raised. The page will of course be taken down once the costs are cleared. We'll see how we go but I intend to produce updates as to the state of the account.
I have been punished enough for acting as a good citizen should and alerting the proper authorities to the possible presence of a powerful and dangerous device. In fact it turned out there were two devices. (There was a back-up.) They were dismantled by the US National Nuclear Security Administration and found to be viable with an estimated yield of 15KT.
