A colourful and dramatic Jubilee celebration is being planned in the historic town of Battle this June, offering pageantry and parades, with plenty of food and drink on offer too.
We will premiere a specially commissioned play, and song, and there’s going to be a poetry slam, giant puppets and newly built wagons to take the plays around Battle”
The celebration is based on the English tradition of Mystery plays, which were produced by merchant guilds and involved promenade performances that would move through the town. Historically, these plays were based on bible stories, but the Battle Mysteries will blend medieval customs with a 21st century twist.
“We’re hoping to draw lots of people in for what we plan to make a bi-annual event in Battle. This will be a vibrant and exciting weekend suitable for all ages,”
The Battle Mysteries will run from the 2nd – 5th of June, which is the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee double bank holiday weekend.
We will use the money raised to pay for entertainment, insurance, costumes and wagons.
