Balmedie Beach Wheelchairs is a non profit Community project located at Balmedie Beach. It is a voluntary run facility allowing families and carers to hire (for free!) all terrain wheelchairs to explore the beach together.
We have had three years working with the beach wheelchairs, finding chairs suitable for everyone and have built a small fleet of all-terrain wheelchairs suitable for children and adults to use in an area that would otherwise be difficult or near impossible to visit.
Our next step is to look to purchase a battery operated all-terrain wheelchair, which is more suitable to some users. We have recently had a wheelchair demonstration and have decided the best possible option is the Extreme X8 4X4 off road Wheelchair. It can cope with snow, up and down kerbs and most importantly sand! This one is not suitable for taking in the water but will certainly make exploring around the dune systems and along the coast much easier. It is designed to suit independent control, but will also have an attendants control on the back. This wheelchair has been adapted to provide an element of independence for all age groups.
We have already received some wonderful donations that will contribute to the total cost but we need a little help making it to the final total to get it shipped over from Australia. This is where we ask if you could please donate to our cause and help everyone REACH THE BEACH! :).
We are hoping to raise a further £3000 to make this a possibility.
